OPZV Battery

Overview

OPzV (Valve-Regulated Lead Acid) batteries have become a popular choice for industrial UPS systems, offering several advantages over traditional VLA (Vented Lead Acid) batteries. These sealed batteries use a starved electrolyte in gel form, immobilized by fumed silica. This design allows oxygen to safely recombine with hydrogen, minimizing water loss. A one-way safety valve vents excess gas only if internal pressure rises too high.

Thanks to their sealed, maintenance-friendly construction, OPzV batteries do not lose electrolyte, are leakproof and can be installed in any position. These features reduce maintenance needs compared to conventional VLA batteries. While OPzV batteries require less frequent attention, regular inspections and performance checks are still recommended to ensure reliability and prevent thermal runaway.

As a type of VRLA battery, OPzV offers excellent cost-effectiveness for initial investment, reliable performance for typical UPS runtime needs and safe, clean operation in critical environments. However, like other VRLA batteries, they have a shorter lifespan compared to open-vented options, especially in long-duration applications. Still, for most industrial UPS systems, OPzV batteries provide a solid balance of performance, safety, and affordability.
